For nearly four decades, APC has been the industry standard for reliable power and physical IT infrastructure. Today, our brand enjoys an excellent reputation in the IT departments of large and small enterprises and among our business partners. The history of APC is also the history of innovations that have been attracting attention all over the world to their products for infrastructure, management systems and data security for years.

American Power Conversion Corporation was founded in 1981 by three MIT graduate electronics engineers for research and development in the field of solar energy. In 1986, the first production facility in Rhode Island was opened. That same year, the company launched its first UPS, the 450AT + model, which won the Editor's Choice Award from PC Magazine. In 1988, the shares of APC were offered to the public.

1989 saw the award-winning PowerChute® software revolutionized power management; as well as establishing cooperation with two large distributors: Tech Data and Ingram Micro. In 1990, APC continued to enrich its portfolio with outstanding products, such as the Smart-UPS® family, which are still considered the industry-leading solution for protecting the power of network infrastructures. That same year, President and CEO of Rodger B. Dowdell, Jr., was appointed by the Inc. Magazine named "Entrepreneur of the Year" in New England.

In the 1990s, APC also entered other markets with 155 new products, including the SurgeArrest® surge protectors; Matrix-UPS®, the industry's first modular UPS; a new generation of Smart-UPS; first Back-UPS Pro® models; and the integrated Symmetra® Power Array ™ solution that revolutionized the industry with its redundancy, scalability and serviceability. Product range expansion, commissioning of two foreign production plants (in Galway, Ireland in 1994 and in the Philippines in 1996), and acquisitions of Systems Enhancement Corp. and Silcon A / S, made APC revenues exceed $ 1 billion in 1998.

In 1999, APC entered the home technology market with the PowerShield solution, which was a response to the growing popularity of broadband cable and wireless networks in homes. The company kicked off the new millennium with three strategic acquisitions and an opening to the DC power supply market for telecommunications equipment, the cable network and connectivity market for home and business, and the precision cooling market for data centers and telecommunications equipment. The 2001 acquisition of ARRIS enabled APC to develop its broadband power infrastructure potential. In 2002, PowerStruXure ™, the first component of critical physical infrastructure for networks (NCPI) architecture, was introduced to revolutionize data center power management. In the same year, the company was included in the NASDAQ-100 index, which comprises the 100 largest non-financial companies on the trading floor.

In 2003, the InfraStruXure ™ architecture made its debut. It integrates power, cooling, racks, management and services into an open, adaptable solution, and has already won nearly 20 awards worldwide. Another novelty was the TravelPower ™ case - the world's first device capable of charging a device - which was an instant success on the market. The InfraStruXure family was expanded in 2004 with cooling systems and energy generators for local installation. That same year, APC won over 100 awards worldwide for its products and business excellence. Following the success of the PowerStruXure architecture in development since 2002, APC has expanded its NCPI infrastructure offering by acquiring Netbotz, a promising technology company specializing in physical IT security. The areas of APC are now also specialized in management and physical security.

On February 14, 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric, an international group with European roots specializing in energy and automation. As a result, the organizational unit of Critical Power & amp; Cooling Services (CPCS) Business Unit, which currently includes two brands of UPS systems: APC and MGE.
