General information

A photovoltaic inverter, also called an inverter or frequency converter, if well chosen can significantly increase the efficiency of the panels, while the wrong one often becomes the cause of failure. The inverter is an essential part of the photovoltaic system - it has the appearance of a box and is responsible for converting direct current into alternating current so that it can reach electrical outlets.

Types of inverters

• Off-grid (island) inverters - do not have the function of synchronization with the grid, because all the electricity not used by the household goes to the batteries. Used mainly to power household appliances or to charge batteries.
• On-grid inverters – cooperating with the electric grid. It does not allow for battery charging.
• Hybrid inverters – they can work with the grid as well as return excess power to the battery.

We also distinguish:

• Single-phase inverters – mainly used in small installations up to 3 kW;
• Three-phase inverters – used in more powerful photovoltaic systems.
