ExCam IPM2036 is a high-performance network camera with day/night functionality, specifically designed for use in explosion hazardous areas. It offers a 4MP resolution (2668 x 1512), integrated IR illumination, and a “Deep Learning Processing Unit” (DPLU). It is approved in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX), IECEx, and EAC-Ex. These and other available approvals can be found on the manufacturer's website in the "Downloads" section.
ExCam IPM2036 produces its own light! It features built-in, energy-efficient, long-lasting IR LEDs. Integrated IR illumination (wavelength 855 nm) enables discreet surveillance even in complete darkness. Thanks to the integrated IR LEDs, additional lighting is hardly needed. In absolute darkness, the maximum range is 2 m. The lighting range depends on the environment, especially on ambient lighting (see lighting test report in downloadable materials).
Lightfinder technology ensures sharp images with more realistic and saturated colors, even of moving objects. WDR compensates for brightness differences in the environment.
The ExCam series is certified according to both the European directive (ATEX) and the international standard (IECEx). The explosion-proof housing is approved for ATEX Group II for Zones 1, 2, 21, and 22 including explosion groups IIC / IIIC. Additionally, it is EAC-Ex approved.
During the development of ExCam IPM2036, great emphasis was placed on safety, mechanical precision, and high-quality stainless steel. Moreover, the modular design was also an important aspect.
In terms of technical characteristics, we have reached the limits of what is feasible: in areas such as media resistance and ambient temperature
We set standards with the ExCam series.
High image quality is crucial for clearly capturing processes and identifying involved persons or objects. Top image quality is a prerequisite for reliable analysis. With a very high resolution of 4MP (1512p at 30 frames per second), recordings made by ExCam IPM2036 provide the best foundation for advanced analytical functions.
Cameras have long ceased to be used solely as image recording devices. Thanks to continually improved processors and their associated performance, decentralized image evaluation can now be performed directly on the camera – known as on-edge. The advantage of this camera-based analysis is primarily lower bandwidth usage since the actual analysis is performed on raw data on the camera, and only metadata is transmitted. This means events can be responded to almost in real-time. More on this can be found in our technical report on artificial intelligence in camera systems.

Motion detection has long been able to detect people or vehicles in specific areas. However, the error rate, e.g., due to shadows or objects, was relatively high, and the detected motion could not be classified. Thanks to the new ExCam IPM2036 technology (intelligent algorithms and deep learning processing unit), it is possible to differentiate between a person and a vehicle in the image. Object analysis even goes as far as distinguishing between cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Object analysis can be useful, for example, where approaching a dangerous area with moving machinery needs to be detected and reported. This is where completely new possibilities arise.
ExCam IPM2036 has a DPLU. This integrated DPLU enables analysis functions such as differentiated object classification. It can reliably detect various objects and distinguish, for example, between a scooter, car, truck, and person. It also supports third-party AI applications.
ExCam IPM2036 operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -60°C to +120°C.
Thanks to its high-quality materials, the ExCam series is resistant to many substances!
Specially designed flat GYLON (PTFE) gaskets not only ensure that the camera is waterproof (IP68), resistant to water jets (IP66), but also resistant to many chemicals. Exceptionally durable, scratch-resistant, and impact-resistant borosilicate glass is part of the list of high-quality materials.
The user can choose between 3 lenses. Depending on the application, they can select from 3 different angles of view: wide-angle lens, standard focal length lens, or telephoto lens.

Thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, data and power can be supplied via a single cable. This means that only a PoE switch or a midspan PoE injector is required to connect in the safe area. Cameras are powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE according to IEEE 802.3af) through the network, eliminating the need for costly installation of a separate power line. ExCam IPM2036 simultaneously delivers several different video streams and supports H.264, H.265, and MJPG formats.
ExCam IPM2036 is equipped with day/night functionality. This makes it particularly suitable for outdoor or indoor use in low light. When brightness drops below a certain level, the camera automatically switches to night mode to deliver high-quality black-and-white images using near-infrared light. Near-infrared light, ranging from 780 to about 1000 nanometers, may be visible to the human eye only to a limited extent. The ExCam IPM2036 image sensor detects this light and utilizes it. The IR filter is automatically removed.
ExCam IPM2036 has a microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card slot (card not included), which means each camera has integrated recording storage. Additionally, the camera supports active recording to NAS (Network Attached Storage).
