Electrical Connectors for hazardous areas [Ex]
Categories
The company DACPOL also offers high-quality EX connectors for explosion hazard zones.
We offer, among others:
- Connectors with disconnectors
- Rail connectors
Installation instructions for EEX e applications: In cases where through connectors are placed directly next to through connectors of different sizes or directly next to protective conductor connectors, the open side of the block of connectors of the same size should be closed with a covering plate or partition wall.
In cases where adjacent series connectors are bridged by a connecting bridge, to maintain the required insulation distances, a separating plate (without loss of division), covering plate, or partition wall should be inserted between individual connector groups or at the beginning and end of the transversely connected group of connectors.
- Power connectors 16A-63A for up to 4 poles
Zone 1/21; Certificate: II 2GD EX d IIC T6/66 (Operating temperature: -60°C to +40°C)
The connectors have certifications: ATEX, IECEX, GOST-R.
The explosion-proof FSCQ series connectors have a built-in disconnector. The current circuit is interrupted by turning the plug. Complete disconnection of the connector is only possible when the current circuit is disconnected. The FSCQ 363 connectors additionally have a fuse. The connector housing is made of stainless steel. Standard color: epoxy paint RAL 7037.
- Control connectors M12
- 3/4/5-pole connectors up to 16A
- 4/5-pole connectors up to 32A.
What characterizes EX connectors for explosion hazard zones?
EX connectors are special components designed for use in explosion hazard zones (so-called ATEX – Atmosphères Explosibles) due to explosive atmospheres created by mixtures of gases, dusts, or vapors and mists.
A distinctive feature of EX connectors for explosion hazard zones is their design preventing ignition that could lead to an explosion. They use solutions that eliminate sparking or significant heating of parts. The connectors are made using materials resistant to high temperatures and chemical and environmental corrosion, such as stainless steel, brass, aluminum, or high-quality plastics.
Types of EX connectors based on construction and method of protection against ignition of explosive atmospheres
EX connectors for explosion hazard zones can be divided into three main categories based on the applied solutions aimed at preventing ignition of explosive atmospheres.
The first category includes EX d connectors, also known as flameproof enclosures, intended for use in zones 1 and 2. Their construction ensures that any possible ignition does not escape outside the enclosure. Thus, flames caused, for example, by sparking or device failure are extinguished, and gases formed during combustion are not released outside under high pressure.
The second category consists of EX e connectors with increased safety, also intended for use in zones 1 and 2. They are designed to minimize the risk of sparking and overheating of components, thereby reducing the risk of ignition of explosive atmospheres in the application environment. EX connectors for explosion hazard zones with increased safety feature mechanical reinforcements and resistance to high temperatures and damage.
The next category is EX i, which includes intrinsically safe connectors that can be used not only in zones 1 and 2 but also in zone 0, characterized by a constant explosive atmosphere. They are designed so that the energy transmitted is so low that even in case of a short circuit it does not cause ignition.
Components in the EX i category are divided into three types:
- EX ia — where explosion protection is guaranteed even if two factors occur simultaneously,
- EX ib — where explosion protection is effective if one factor occurs,
- EX ic — where protection against ignition is guaranteed during standard device use.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that EX connectors are also available in the m variant, meaning hermetically sealed. In this case, their internal elements are immersed in liquids (usually resin), which provides insulation of the possible ignition source from the explosive atmosphere. Thus, even in case of an explosion or sparking, flames or high pressure cannot escape outside the component enclosure. These connectors are intended for use in all zones.
