FIAMM is a global leader in the production of high-quality lead-acid batteries. From our extensive range, we offer maintenance-free VRLA AGM batteries. FIAMM lead-acid batteries are used wherever the highest emphasis is placed on reliability, including as central batteries, power supply for UPS systems, emergency lighting, electric carts, alarm systems, etc.
Some of the lead-acid batteries sold by DACPOL are VdS-certified for use in fire protection systems.
Lead-acid batteries (acid batteries or lead batteries)
We offer four series of maintenance-free VRLA AGM batteries.
The FG series is FIAMM's basic AGM battery series, combining reliability with economy. It is mainly intended for standby operation in backup power systems, alarm systems, etc.
The FGH series consists of batteries with increased current efficiency. They are mainly used in UPS systems.
The FIT series batteries have front terminal connections, enabling installation in 19” and 23” racks. They are intended for standby operation in backup power systems, mainly in telecommunications. The design life is 12 years.
The FGL series is characterized by an extended service life of 10–12 years.
The FLB series comprises top-quality batteries used mainly in backup power systems with a 12-year lifespan.
Each series includes AGM batteries of various capacities.
- AGM battery 0.8 – 70 Ah
- AGM battery 5 – 10 Ah
- AGM battery 12V 26 – 200 Ah
- AGM battery 17 – 205 Ah
- AGM Fit battery 41 – 195 Ah
What is an AGM battery?
AGM batteries are used where a completely sealed power unit is required, without the risk of corrosive acid leakage. These batteries belong to the broader group of VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) batteries, which offer excellent sealing, making them suitable for use in hard-to-reach locations.
How is an AGM battery constructed?
In this type of battery, the electrolyte is contained in a fiberglass mat separator, which prevents it from spilling. This design allows AGM batteries to be used in any position. The glass mat increases the device’s durability in cyclic operation and ensures better starting current performance, enabling operation under increased pressure.
Gel cells are maintenance-free devices. Additionally, they are resistant to impacts and various types of shocks.
Applications of FIAMM AGM batteries
AGM batteries have a very wide range of applications. They can be divided into two categories – cyclic and standby use.
AGM batteries for standby operation
Standby operation means that the battery functions as a backup power source. In such cases, the AGM battery or battery pack is connected to the power supply system and provides additional power in the event of a power failure. This application is most common in alarm systems, UPS systems, cash registers, or emergency lighting.
AGM batteries for cyclic operation
Using this type of battery in cyclic operation means it is used as a standalone power source. In this way, the batteries are often used as:
- batteries for wheelchairs,
- batteries for golf carts,
- batteries for cash registers,
- batteries for toys, lawn mowers, cleaning machines.
AGM batteries are excellent for devices with high power demands.
Advantages of this type of battery:
- FIAMM AGM batteries do not require regular maintenance or electrolyte refilling,
- can operate in various positions,
- low temperatures do not damage the housing due to electrolyte expansion,
- glass fiber protects the electrolyte from shocks and vibrations, even under extreme terrain conditions,
- higher voltage at terminal ends and longer operating time,
- high current efficiency during short-term high-current discharges.
How to charge such a battery?
AGM batteries require carefully selected charging conditions. It is recommended to use voltage stabilizers, also known as charge controllers, that ensure correct charging current in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. These rectifier control devices can detect temperature changes in the battery being charged and adjust the voltage and current accordingly.
Overcharging the battery is very harmful and can reduce its capacity. They should not remain in a discharged state, as this can shorten their lifespan and reduce capacity. In such cases, they should be promptly subjected to maintenance charging.
