Film capacitors are capacitors with a dielectric made of plastics – most often polypropylene, metallized polypropylene, or polyester. Capacitors with a plastic dielectric are characterized by low losses resulting from low electrode resistance and high insulation resistance. Icel film capacitors can achieve high currents (several thousand amperes) and rated voltages (tens of thousands of volts), which allows their use in power electronics systems as commutation, damping, filtering capacitors, as well as in reactive power compensation devices, induction heating generators, and high-voltage systems.
