Thermal Relays
Categories
We offer many types of thermal relays from leading manufacturers. Our products, due to their manufacturers, are distinguished by high quality and long service life. Overload relays are used in many industries. The parameters of our devices match those in the manufacturers' datasheets, which translates into safe operation of the installations where they are installed.
What is a thermal relay?
Thermal relays are used to protect electric motors, transformer windings, or power electronic components. During operation, a motor may be overloaded due to excessive mechanical load, e.g., cutting wet wood, or a drop in supply voltage. A prolonged increase in current consumption can damage the motor due to overheating. This device works as follows: in case of phase current loss or reaching a specific value, it disconnects the control circuit. The thermal relay is a device that protects the motor from overload effects.
How is a thermal relay constructed?
A thermal bimetal relay consists of a set of bimetals heated by the current drawn by the motor and a normally open contact assembly. The normally open contact is triggered by the bending of the bimetals due to temperature rise. The bimetals must be connected in the main motor circuit while the normally open contact is connected in the contactor control circuit.
