Discover our products designed for thermal processing of plastics

In the field of plastic thermoforming machines, we distribute components intended for use in the industry dealing with thermal processing of plastics: meters, serial communication devices, and power controllers. Thanks to many years of experience in the industry, DACPOL offers a wide range of components and devices used in plastic production.

What is the thermoforming process?

This process involves heating the plastic to a temperature slightly above its plasticity limit, after which the material is pressed in a vacuum chamber in a mold or on a plug.

What is the difference between a plug and a mold?

A plug replicates the external shape of the desired part, while a mold reproduces the internal shape. When designing both elements, one must consider that they should be slightly smaller due to the thickness of the pressed plastic, but the final thickness must be assumed, as the plastic stretches and shrinks during the process.

Structure of a thermoformer

The thermoformer consists of a vacuum chamber, a vacuum pump, a buffer tank, and a control system. Inside the vacuum chamber, there is a platform that moves vertically. On this platform, the plug or mold is placed. Above the platform, there is a clamping frame. Its purpose is to hold the plastic so that it does not fall while being above its plasticity limit, and to prevent the vacuum chamber from leaking.

The main components of machines used in thermal processing of plastics are:

  • Power controllers: single-phase thyristor controllers, three-phase thyristor controllers
  • Counters: energy meters, pulse counters
  • Signaling and communication devices: light and sound signaling, industrial computers
  • LED displays: industrial displays, information displays

How does the thermoforming process work?

The plastic to be formed is placed above the vacuum chamber opening. Then, after lowering the clamping frame, it is slid onto a set with heaters. The material is heated while air is simultaneously pumped out of the vacuum chamber. The duration of this part of the process depends on how long it takes the material to exceed its elasticity limit and start collapsing into the chamber. At this point, the heaters are retracted and the table with the mold or plug, placed inside the chamber, is moved. The first contact with the material occurs, followed by gradual pressing until full adherence.
