Ex signaling luminaires and emergency exit sign luminaires
Applications and selection criteria
Emergency lighting – central or decentralized
When it comes to emergency lighting in hazardous areas, there are two main philosophies based on the reliability of the power source, the effort and costs associated with testing and maintenance, and economic efficiency.
Emergency luminaires with an integrated battery system
Emergency luminaires with their own battery power supply provide the required lighting in a decentralized manner, independent of central systems. This means the battery, charger, and electronics are integrated into each emergency luminaire. Thanks to their availability and redundancy, this system meets the highest demands for power source reliability, especially in safety-sensitive areas.
However, from an economic point of view, the costs and effort associated with testing and maintaining each self-powered luminaire, as well as the impact of environmental conditions on battery life, must be considered. Taking these safety aspects into account, the use of emergency luminaires with an integrated battery system is undoubtedly the best solution in large and spacious hazardous areas where the number of luminaires must be limited.
CEAG emergency luminaire systems with integrated batteries from the EXIT N and Ex-Lite N series are designed for a 3-hour duration. The EE11 PL and Planete 400 series are intended for a 1.5-hour duration and are equipped with automatic function and operational time testing devices.
LEDs in the Planete 400 luminaire
The Planete 400 AD DL luminaire complements our range of emergency luminaires with an integrated battery system and modern LED technology. The integrated microprocessor monitors the automatic test and operating time function, and green and yellow LEDs indicate the lighting status. The Planete 400 AD DL is equipped with 32 LEDs and has an emergency lighting time of over one hour.
Central emergency power supply using V-CG-S system luminaires
A centrally monitored emergency lighting system using a CEAG power supply unit and a central battery system is used when many emergency luminaires need to be connected and used as system luminaires.
As a rule, battery systems are not installed in hazardous areas and do not have to operate under the same environmental conditions as the luminaires themselves. This usually results in an extended battery life. However, the increased costs and effort associated with running cables from the central power system to the luminaires in hazardous areas must be considered.
In CEAG systems, we offer versions of explosion-proof emergency and signaling luminaires equipped with V-CG-S modules. Among other things, the monitoring module controls data exchange with the central system and reports the operating status and faults. All CEAG luminaires equipped with such a module are properly monitored and can be connected to the CEAG emergency lighting system with a monitoring function. This means that the explosion-proof signaling luminaires of the EXIT V-CG-S, Ex-Lite V-CG-S, dKLK 23 V-CG-S, and AB 12108-EVG series can also be integrated as system luminaires in a practical monitoring system.
This solution offers the following benefits:
- Automatic execution of necessary functional and time tests with central logging of all functions and error messages
- Significant cost savings, as manual tests are no longer necessary
- Flexible switch programming for mixed operating modes with a single module (e.g., selection between continuous and emergency mode, as well as switching with general lighting)
- High level of emergency lighting safety thanks to constant availability display
- Simplified installation due to the use of a single power line for data transmission
- Shared connection of basic and emergency power supply:
- Separate data cabling is not required
- Up to 20 luminaires can be connected and addressed to a single circuit
