What is a current transformer?
A current transformer is a special type of transformer designed to convert high current values into proportionally lower ones. They are constructed in such a way as to provide galvanic isolation between the primary and secondary circuits. This ensures protection of connected measuring devices in case of disturbances.
Applications of current transformers
Current transformers are used, for example, to extend the measuring range of ammeters, which helps reduce operating costs. Additionally, a current transformer can be used as a galvanic separator between measuring and protection circuits and the main current path, ensuring the safety of the measuring and protection system.
