What is a single-phase solid-state relay?
Also called electronic or SSR (Solid State Relay), it is the electronic equivalent of electromechanical relays – built from semiconductor components such as transistors, thyristors, or triacs. These relays are logic circuits for switching voltages, currents, and frequencies.
We distinguish two main types of relays: electromechanical relays and solid-state relays.
The function of relays, whether electromechanical or solid-state SSR, is to control the load (output) circuit using a low-voltage signal from an isolated control (input) circuit.
Solid-state relays – applications.
- Mainly used in electrical devices and electronics – installed in sockets and printed circuits.
- They are used, among other things, to separate electrical potentials (galvanic isolation) – this protects the control plane, e.g., from malfunctions caused by transient states or interference currents.
- Another application is signal processing and switching amplification, used when current and voltage exceed the rated value of the optoelectronic transistor.
